Abilities, Talents, Hobbies
Try to learn about the child’s interests, talents, skills, hobbies she/he used to have before migration, not only those strictly related to school and education.
Interests and hobbies will offer you some space to connect with the child and establish a relationship and you may use them as a tool to help the child to integrate with the new class and school more effectively, by inviting the child to participate in activities she/he likes, inviting her/him to extracurricular classes, etc.
However, remember to be careful and attentive and do not force the child to new activities if they do not seem to be ready for them, especially when it comes to the activities connected with more social exposure, such as, e.g. singing, dancing or public speaking.
