Developmental and neurological reasons
In some cases, the difficulties with learning, understanding, and using language may be explained (at least partially) by such conditions as hearing loss or deficit, autism, specific language impairment, intellectual disabilities, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), brain injuries, or neurodevelopmental disorders which are caused by complex interactions between genes and the environment that change brain development. Such conditions are independent from the child’s bilingualism or multilingualism and require specialist diagnosis and individually adjusted therapy combined with support from the school.
