Risk of severe adaptation problems #1

If the child migrated against their will, there is a risk of adaptation problems, even if the migration has not been caused by any crisis or danger. The adaptation problems may be related to building new relationships, learning and using new language, adjusting to the new environment (school, neighbourhood, etc.), accepting and following social and norms in the new country. Adaptation problems may include and be connected with homesickness, loss of support systems, loneliness, culture shock, lack of close relationships, perceived discrimination, financial difficulties, etc. In the long term, they may be linked and lead to psychological problems, such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, behaviour and psychosomatic disorders (especially in younger children).
