Culturally and diversity sensitive?
Creating a culturally sensitive school environment includes several levels. Such as:
(a) Building an atmosphere of openness and acceptance among students and school staff, making the school space diversity friendly (is there any space for symbol, materials, contents from beyond the dominant/mainstream culture?).
(b) Providing the students with relevant support addressing their needs and appreciating their unique contribution to the school environment.
Such school environment will be beneficial not only for the new/minority students, but also for the majority group, allowing them to gain knowledge, skills and attitudes essential in the contemporary diverse societies.
